During the late 1970s, when Sreeraj Lassi Bar had already become a household name in Bengaluru for its iconic lassis and handmade kulfis, a new flavour quietly started gaining attention — Kesar Badam Kulfi. Crafted using reduced milk, Kashmiri saffron, and hand-crushed almonds, this dessert wasn’t just a treat — it was a celebration of Indian richness in its purest form.
“My father always believed that if you keep your process honest, the taste will never change,” shares Kahab CK, son of founder Abdu Rehman. “Our Kesar Badam Kulfi was born out of that same belief. No shortcuts, no synthetic flavour — just time, patience, and real ingredients.”
Made the traditional way, the kulfi is slow-cooked over a low flame until the milk thickens, then flavoured with saffron strands soaked in warm milk and blended with chopped almonds. “We still don’t use any artificial thickeners. The creamy texture you feel — it comes from time, not from shortcuts,” Kahab adds.
Back then, kulfi vendors were plenty across Bengaluru, but very few offered the kind of quality that Sreeraj became known for. “The moment we added Kesar Badam Kulfi to our menu, it became a hit. Our customers would come back just for that flavour. It had a royal feel to it, and people loved how indulgent yet familiar it tasted.”
Apart from its taste, Kesar Badam Kulfi also brings along health benefits. Saffron is known for its mood-lifting and digestion-aiding properties, while almonds offer natural Vitamin E and healthy fats. “It’s not just dessert. It has warmth, tradition, and even a bit of nutrition,” Kahab smiles.
Today, this kulfi continues to be one of Sreeraj’s best-selling items — not just in Bengaluru, but also in Sharjah, where the brand’s latest outlet is introducing UAE locals to the charm of authentic Indian kulfi. “Some customers are surprised when they hear it’s made the traditional way. They expect factory-made blocks, but we still pour, stir, and freeze it by hand,” he adds.
Priced affordably at ₹99, the kulfi is available across all outlets — from Shivajinagar to Jayanagar, and now beyond borders too. “It’s one of those desserts that never needed marketing. Once someone tries it, they come back for it. That’s the power of purity.”
Even with changing times and evolving menus, Sreeraj’s Kesar Badam Kulfi stands tall — creamy, classic, and forever rooted in the soul of Indian summers.
